Holidays!

During the year (2024) there was coincidental holi-days of Hanukkah and Christmas, and I wanted like to honor this by sending you all a gift!  This had not occurred since the last time in 2005!

For Hanukkah, there are images that I have drawn on a set of cards depicting various menorahs with each successive day, showing candles lit from the first day until the eighth.  I am so impressed with the breadth of artistic creativity and resourcefulness of the designs that I encountered while researching menorahs.

For Christmas, there are drawings depicting the 12 days of Christmas.  These are my own version of cards, like the type my grandma Phyl used to have with symbols for each of the 12 days of Christmas as sung in the Christmas carol by that name.   At family Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings, she would distribute for us to hold up for each ‘day’ as we sang the carol while she played the piano!

Twelve Days of Christmas

This set of cards is based on a family tradition that my family enjoyed singing with during winter holidays, at the end of Thanksgiving and during Christmas, we would sing around the piano with my grandma Phil playing the piano.   This set of cards has images that are based on the gifts that “my true love gave to me” in the Twelve Days of Christmas carol.  My grandma had made a set of these type of cards using shirt cardboard and cutouts from newspapers, cards and advertisements.  Many years later I made my Mom and Dad a set of watercolor cards and this set is one that I made for myself to use. These cards were passed around to various singers (or audience) to be held up to indicate which day we were singing about!  It was always great fun and easy to get mixed up; both with which card to hold up the cards and singing the right days in order! Menorahs for Hanukkah!

Hanukkah Card set

This set of menorah cards one for each evening of Hanukkah, each depicts the evening it represents. The menorahs are based on actual menorahs I found when looking at their designs. I have also included an extra dancing menorah with figures holding the candle cups with all candles lit this one does not have a day indication on it like the rest of the cards do.
