Materials Tutorial/ Metals

This presentation will explain the properties of the metals family, and the differences between various metals. Although they all have the same characteristic properties, they differ in scale of each of these properties.

For instance steel has much higher tensile strength than copper does, and this is why we build bridges with steel rather than copper. However copper conducts heat more readily than steel does, and this is why we find steel cookware clad with copper to conduct the heat to the food quickly and evenly.

Enjoy exploring the metals family tree and its branches. Look around you and notice why and how metals are used in your everyday life. We have known of the importance of them for a very long time, for good reason. The metals family has given us many gifts with the utility of the properties they possess.
